Live and band recording
In the roughly 30 m² live room you capture drums, guitars, bass and keys — as an ensemble or instrument by instrument — patched to the control room with an engineer watching bleed and performance.

Bands breathing together in one room often feel different from isolated home overdubs. Gregorxyra opened in 2019 with three rooms under one roof at Bilderdijkstraat 78; the live room is the hub for rock, indie, jazz combos and acoustic sets up to five players.
Choose full-band takes, semi-live with later overdubs in the vocal booth, or a hybrid with live drums and bass plus separate solos. After the session, tracks move to mixing or leave with you as labelled WAV. Load-in and plan are agreed via contact so Mon–Fri 10–22 · Sat 11–18 on the day stays for music.
How it works
- 01
Plan
Send lineup, songs, approach (live vs overdub) and backline needs. We book hourly, four-hour session or full day and request a 30% deposit.
- 02
Load-in
Street-level entry keeps cases and amps simple; The studio is on Bilderdijkstraat in Oud-West, about a ten-minute walk from Leidseplein. Trams 1 and 7 serve the Bilderdijkstraat stop, roughly three minutes on foot from there. The entrance is at street level, which makes bringing cases or instruments straightforward. Arrive fifteen minutes early for line check and headphone mixes.
- 03
Record
We mic kit, amps and acoustic sources, balance bleed and capture takes with clear slates. Breaks follow your pace — tired hands play sloppier.
- 04
Export
Multitrack WAV per channel or per song, plus optional rough balance for home listening. Archive 24 months; your own backup still matters.
Capacity and lineup
The live room suits duos up to five musicians at once; larger ensembles need alternative mic plans or multiple days. Drums, bass, guitar, keys, percussion and one lead vocal live are typical; extra singers often move to voice recording for isolation.
Up to 8 people in the building including crew and friends — tell us if you expect an audience. Minimum age 16 for unattended bands; younger groups with supervision and consent.
Playing together or track-by-track
Ensemble: everyone plays at once; bleed between microphones is part of the character. We use baffles and polar patterns to keep vocals readable.
Semi-live: rhythm section live, solos and doubles later — efficient when arrangements are dense.
Track-by-track: one player at a time with click or guide; slower but maximum control. Pick what fits repertoire and budget; compare hourly €98 with session €355 on services.
Microphones and backline
We draw from the 18 microphones in the building: dynamics on snare and guitars, condensers on overheads and acoustics, DI for bass and keys where it helps. A house drum kit is not standard — bring your own or hire locally; we mic what you bring.
Bring guitar amps; we have isolation setups and attenuators to tame level. Discuss room sound vs close miking in intake so setup time stays short.
Engineer and monitoring
Saskia or an assigned recording engineer runs routing, cue mixes and takes from the control room (about 20 m²). Each player gets a headphone mix; drummers often need extra kick and click. We do not roll blindly: between takes we review timing and dynamics before you restart.
Want rough mixes during the session? Fine for internal feedback, not a substitute for mixing. External producers may sit in the control room by arrangement.
Band preparation
Tune guitars and drums beforehand; replace strings that hiss. Rehearse with a click if you plan to use one in the studio. Send demos or tempos ahead so we prep a Pro Tools or Logic template.
Bring tuners, spare strings, sticks, cables and power strips. Vocal preparation applies when singers book booth time the same day. FAQ
Can our four-piece fit one session?
Often yes for three or four songs in four hours when you are prepared. A full EP usually needs multiple sessions or a full day at €645.
Can we bring our own producer?
Yes, one producer in the control room is normal. Extra people should be cleared via contact for space and focus.
Do you deliver mixed tracks?
How loud can we play?
Rock and drums are welcome at sensible levels. We watch bleed and complaints; extremely long full-volume takes work better in blocks with breaks.
What if a member is ill?
Tell us as soon as possible. More than 7 days ahead we move the date free of charge; closer in, deposit rules in terms and conditions apply with one shift within 6 months.
